girls and curls
this post is dedicated to those girls at the gym who always look cute. i don't understand you. do you try on different gym outfits before coming? is there a purpose behind those spandex you're sporting underneath your short shorts or is it style? does your hair not go back into a messy ponytail and headband because you have so much product on those bouncy curls or do you just not want to mess it up because it took you two hours to do this morning and your boyfriend is working out with you? i look at your cute, skimpy outfits and wonder how comfortable that can be. not to mention your fancy earrings you 'forgot' to take off before class and that fake tan you've been working on. i guess us practical girls will just never understand. but we will sweat, and we will shower, and we will leave with wet hair and no makeup on, and we will feel good about giving it our all in there.

Do a Triathlon
January 4th: Going to the gym 2-3 days a week, mostly biking.
Where I'm at now: Going to the gym 3-4 days a week including one 45-minute spin class, one hour long swim class, some weight lifting and some running.

Become involved in volunteering with children in the community somehow
January 4th: Trying to determine which organizations to contact first.
Where I'm at now: Well I've started the process of volunteering at church in the nursery. That's a start, but it's not where I want to be. I want to be with those kids who aren't shown the love they deserve. I don't feel like I have much to give them, but my heart absolutely aches every time I think of them and I need to help where I can.

oh... people
if i hyphenated my last name, do you think people would actually take the time to sound it out correctly?
"Hello, is this Marissa ...pause... Wit...er...ink... pause... Witerink?"
"Thank you Miss ... pause...Walter...link."
"Marissa WilterLink, please dial 123, Marissa WilterLink, 123 please"
Don't be intimidated by nine letters, people. WIL-TER-INK.

good to have goals
So with all this talk about resolutions and me deciding not to make one because I know I won't stick with it... I was inspired just to give something a try. I'm writing here, a couple things that I want to do by the end of the year. I plan to update my progress on them each month because that seems way more attainable and practical.

relationship advice
Some relationship advice I read in an article this weekend, it was good:
The longer you are in a relationship, the more likely it is you will hurt eachother badly. You and the one you love most will probably cause more pain in each other's lives than in the lives of the other 6 billion people on the planet. Ask forgiveness often, and forgive even more. Because you're a jerk too.
